Thai TV: The Big Bang

Simultaneous launch of 24 commercial digital TV channels in Thailand has reshaped Southeast Asia’s largest TV market.

Ambitious challengers are going head-to-head with powerful incumbents in a fierce and costly ratings battle. Not all the new entrants are likely to make it.

In this video, operators of two new entertainment channels – Pornpan Techarungchaikul from RS, one of Thailand’s largest production companies; and Vachara and Jitsupa Vacharaphol from Thai Rath, the Kingdom’s biggest newspaper publisher – outline their strategies for success.

Wannee Ruttanaphon from IPG Mediabrands, a major media buyer, and Worasit Lee from PSI, the country’s dominant provider of free satellite (another potentially game-changing distribution platform), also share their views on the start of a new era in Thai TV.
