Inflight entertainment continues to evolve.
The first inflight movie was shown on an amphibious plane that flew around Chicago in 1921. In 1936, the Hindenburg airship offered passengers dining and smoking rooms, a lounge, a bar and a piano.
In the 1950s, projector movies were introduced on some long-haul flights. Personal headphones and audio channels began to filter through to passengers in the 70s.
The 80s saw the first in-seat audio/video on-demand systems, using LCD technology. Since, travelers have become accustomed to sophisticated inflight entertainment.
Yesterday, on a flight between Bangkok and Phuket, Thai airline Nok Air unveiled an inflight WiFi service, utilizing Ku-band technology in partnership with Thaicom.
In doing so, Nok Air became Asia's first airline to offer free WiFi on the Ku-band spectrum.
