India’s Expanding Mobile Internet

A new landscape is taking shape for India’s mobile internet economy.

The number of Indians using their mobile phone to go online is set to pass the 200-million mark sometime in the first half of this year, rising from 173 million individual monthly users in December to an estimated 213 million people by June.

At the same time, people are spending more on the mobile internet as well. Average consumer spend in 35 Indian cities rose 36% between June 2013 and June 2014, with online increasing its share of mobile expenditure overall.

Earlier this month, the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) released a new report, Mobile Internet In India 2014, in conjunction with research agency IMRB International.

We showcase some topline findings from the report in our special graphic below.
